If you've been shopping for window hardware, you've probably noticed that many window handles are available in both left-handed and right-handed versions. If you're unsure which one you need, don't worry - it's much easier to work out than you might think.

Right-Handed Window Handles

A right-handed window handle rotates anti-clockwise when the handle tail is pointing away from the window frame.

To operate it:

  • Lift the handle up and to the right to open the window.
  • Push it down and to the left to close it.

Left-Handed Window Handles

A left-handed window handle rotates clockwise when the handle tail is pointing away from the frame.

To operate it:

  • Lift the handle up and to the left to open the window.
  • Push it down and to the right to close it.

Still Not Sure Which Handle You Need?

The easiest way to identify the correct handing is to stand inside your property, face the window, and imagine the handle with its tail pointing away from the frame. The direction the handle rotates when opening will tell you whether you need a left-handed or right-handed version.

Choosing the correct handing ensures your window is comfortable to operate and that your hardware functions exactly as intended.
